The Power of Your “Tribe”

“Tell me who you walk with and I’ll tell you who you are”. A favorite quote of mine that I wish I could attribute to the author. It is even more beautiful when said in Spanish.

There is so much power in the connections you make, the friendships you develop, your mentors, your mastermind groups and your “tribe”.

It is said that your income is the average of your five closest friends. Who are you spending time with, learning from and being challenged by on a daily basis?

Who do you let speak into your life? Who do you consider your mentors? Or are you a lone ranger ? I’ll admit that can be my problem. Trying to do it all alone and on my own. When I allow those with more experience and better connections to help guide me…Wow. What a difference.

The mastermind groups that have worked best for me are groups of people, usually 5-6, with similar goals and aspirations who meet regularly. Weekly is great. Each person has dedicated time to share goals, current projects or challenges in areas of common interest. The entire group focuses their ideas, advice and resources on that person during their portion of the meeting. It is such a powerful way to move yourself quickly towards your goals and to the completion and success of projects. It is a group that challenges you in ways you can’t begin to imagine and holds you accountable to the goals you have set. There is also great benefit to hearing about and problem solving the challenges and next steps for others. Light bulbs go off and I have huge ah ha moments when I’m in the right group. Ah ha’s for myself and in the power I share with others whether it be an idea, time saving tip or great resource.

Tribes are a new buzz word being thrown around and yet another powerful way to connect. For anyone involved in marketing, I highly recommend Seth Godin’s book “Tribes”. He talks about them as the people you connect with, lead and inspire with your service or product. I am also seeing “tribes” form among groups of peers who are committed to promoting each other in the social media arena. Promoting each others blogs, facebook pages and “tweets”. It is one more way to increase traffic and credibility.

I challenge you to give some thought to the strength of your connections. It is a shift that can make all the difference in the world to your quality of life. The power of the connections you have and make with others is a big part of who you become.
