Ripped it right off the wall!

I took my vision board down!

You remember a couple of years ago when

all anyone could talk about was ”The Secret”?

…and everyone had a vision board?

Loved mine. All the things I want to do.

Pictures of all the places we have yet to travel

and that ski house in Park City and

the place on the beach…

Here is the problem. I suddenly realized I am

falling asleep not celebrating my wins but beating

myself up for the things I haven’t done…wow

..what a revelation…you too?

Here is what I know. You do need to write it down

and you need to think about things and experiences

that will inspire you, but do you need to look at it

everyday? I don’t think so

You see about 15 years ago my

then fiance and I were having a glass of wine

at Sweetwaters on Church Street

in Burlington, Vermont.

He is my husband now ,by the way, and we

will be celebrating 15 years in just a few short weeks.

We wrote a list on the cocktail napkin

of all the things we wanted to accomplish

and have in our lives. We put it in a drawer

and when we moved for the 3rd time a few

years ago he found it.

Everything on that list had happened already

and in much bigger ways than we could have

ever imagined.

As a matter of fact, we had specified

a cottage on the lake. We were moving

full time into our dream home on the lake.

We hoped for a child and we have three fabulous kids.

(Makes all the rest of this seem inconsequential)

We wanted real estate and successful businesses,

a winery …all done.

So does it work? Absolutely

… and you have to also.

You need to take advantage

of the opportunities

that come your way.

You need to celebrate your wins and

you need to have goals in mind. Write them down

and then tuck them away and get to work!

Follow mentors who can help you do what

you want to accomplish and don’t give up.

You may need to reevaluate and correct

course on occasion but don’t stop.

Better to brand yourself or your business?

So the great debate, is it better to brand you or your business?
I dare say neither. Just share and be your authentic self. A better question is what can I provide of value today? or if you are a better planner than I What can I provide of value tomorrow? If you ask yourself that question everyday and do it now…wow.

The only thing that matters is building honest to goodness real relationships with the people you are meeting out there on the Internet. You do that by helping them solve their problems and giving them good valueable relevant content. Some of them will buy and some of them won’t. Some of them will join your business. Some of them will connect with you on a deeper level and become lifetime friends and business partners.

Forget about the branding stuff. It is getting old and tired.

Forget about how great your company is. How great the founders are or the product or the timing. Nobody cares.

At the end of the day what people want to know is that you care. That you are who you say you are and that you bring them valuable content and solutions to their existing problems.

Get out there and do it!

More to Feed Your Brain…

Jim Rohn said “Everything you need for your better future has already been written. It is all available. All you have to do is go to the library. But only3% of the people in America even have a library card. They’re free.” I’d add that today you don’t even have to go to the library with the power of the internet and digital downloads. Some of the best marketers out there are giving away more than enough great information to change your business and your life.

The challenge is wading through the garbage.

One that I pay close attention to is Seth Godin ( http://sethgodin.typepad.com/) and I wanted to share a recent post:

Avoiding momentum

Some days, even the best dentist doesn’t feel like being a dentist.

And a lifeguard might not feel like being a lifeguard.

Fortunately, they have appointments, commitments and jobs. They have to show up. They have to start doing the work. And most of the time, this jump start is sufficient to get them over the hump, and then they go back to being in the zone and doing their best work.

Momentum is incredibly useful to someone who has to overcome fear, dig in deep and ship. Momentum gives you a reason to overcome your fear and do your art, because there are outside forces and obligations that keep you moving. Without them, you’d probably stumble and fall.

And yet…

And yet many of us fear too much momentum. We look at a project launch or a job or another new commitment as something that might get out of control. It’s one thing to be a folk singer playing to a hundred people a night in a coffeehouse, but what if the momentum builds and you become a star? A rock star? With an entourage and appearances and higher than high expectations for your next work. That’s a lot of momentum, no?

Deep down, this potential for an overwhelming response alerts the lizard brain and we hold back. We’re afraid of being part of something that feels like it might be too big for us.

Hint: it probably isn’t.

It Happened Again Today…

I’m being pitched on networking businesses at an alarming rate. This week is averaging two to three a day. Disconcerting. Best thing is I am learning more than ever about what not to do. Taking me back to basics and reminding me of the important training that must happen with my team to have the kind of far reaching success I envision for each of them.

It astounds me how little people listen. I politely listened to the first pitch today for over 20 minutes. Ok, I’m not saying I don’t have my own issues and owning my time is a big one:). She didn’t even listen to my answer to her only question….had she listened the conversation might have had a chance to be a conversation and not a monologue. She didn’t talk about benefits for me. She talked exclusively about features of the product. Worst yet? She never gave me a next step or asked for the sale…I knew what was going on and I left confused. Can you imagine a “real” prospect? Hmmmm…

I think about this quote from John Fogg daily “You will listen more people into this business than you will ever talk into it”.

Expect Success and may I suggest?:) Ask for it!

What Your Well Meaning Upline Isn’t Telling You!

I’ve decided to be bold here and start sharing what I really think! Look out world:)!

I have to share that after three years of building a traditional network marketing business in the traditional way I was just sick at heart. I knew that making a list of everyone I had ever known and then selling them on a product they didn’t know they needed wasn’t for me. Trying to convince people that they needed to make more money, people who didn’t think they could didn’t want to or just plain didn’t have any ambition seemed like a fool’s errand. Teaching my team to do the same thing was even harder. I didn’t believe in it. You see common sense told me that with the power of leverage and the internet, social media which is like hanging out at the best cocktail party ever and some marketing skills that I really ought to be able to build my business online. That I should be able to attract people with information and advertising and let them qualify themselves. I knew it was possible and I was watching it being done but I couldn’t figure out how to do it myself.

I even went so far as to take an affiliate marketing course in hopes that what I learned could be transferred to network marketing but it was so far over my head that my head nearly exploded and my existing business suffered because of the time commitment. That wasn’t what I had in mind and I still didn’t know what I was doing. Meanwhile my upline is chastising me for not “adding to my list” and doing too few presentations but I was so tired of trying to convince someone’s aunt Mary…you know how it goes…the only one who even showed up that she needed something she had never even heard of…and it was a good product don’t get me wrong.

I love the business model. I genuinely aspire to help others create financial and time freedom and I am stoked that in just a few short months after switching companies to one that supports online marketing and finding a mentor who is a success in the same… it is all falling into place. I had the distinct pleasure of being publicly recognized by one of the gurus just this week for my recent success in marketing and more importantly creating comissions. Nice to get the accolades but nicer still to know I am on the right path for me and my new team.

My message is that it is possible to build a successful business online leveraging the power of the internet. I don’t deny that people have and will continue to build successfully offline and that works for them but for me I’ll take online anyday!

Creating Your Own Capture Pages

Capture pages give you the ability to collect names and email addresses (and more if you so desire) of people who raise their hands and identify themselves as interested in who you are and what you offer whether it be a product, businesss opportunity or information you want to share with the world. They allow you to then build a list of prospects as quickly as you desire using any number of traffic creating methods. This list is true “gold” and if “mined” properly allows you to build relationships that will create multiple streams of income in ways you may never have imagined.

The capture page is one of the most important tools in your toolbox. Being able to create and build your own capture pages allows you to move quickly and test new ideas efficiently and economically. Without having to wait for new designs from “your web guy” you have your business running on superspeed and that can set you apart. The best news is it is easy to do when you have a mentor and the right software. Both available here and now:)!

I spent over a year knowing I wanted to be able to create my own capture pages (also known as lead captures or squeeze pages). I bought systems to create them for me but they weren’t custom and I didn’t know how to use them, I googled but there was software involved that was out of my league in cost and technical skills and I tried to hire it done but some of them knew less than I did. I was on a mission to figure this out. I knew it was possible to build a list of prospects online without chasing friends and family and without limiting myself to any geographic area.

I finally found people who were using these effectively, knew how to build them and shared the tools they were using. The most important of which is webdesign software available free called Blue Voda. Now the catch is that to publish your pages you must host them on a domain with VodaHost but it is a small price to pay for easy to use “designware” and the ability to create cashflow systems all day long. I highly recommend you check it out and contact me directly for tutorials and webinars that might help!

Have to give credit to Daegan Smith for this one…Thank you! This is one of those “duh, why didn’t I think of that?”. Use google alerts to keep you updated daily on news about your niche or the things you like to blog about whether it is mlm, networking marketing, a niche in personal development or the latest plug-ins for wordpress. You sign up for the service
( http://www.google.com/alerts ) and it sends you email alerts whenever anything new comes up on that particular topic. You stay tuned in and are always poised with new content and info for your niche. Content creation on automatic. Love that!

I use it to keep track of my name and the kids…especially if you have teenagers not a bad idea:). Never occured to me to use it for blogging…fabulous free content tool! Very cool.

Productive or Just Active?

What are you working on, learning, reading, doing? Is it moving you closer to your goal or away from it? I heard it tonight on a conference call with like minded friends. You know who you are:). Overwhelmed with all that is out there. The emails, social media, books, courses and more. How do we know what to work on next? What should I be working on? What new shiny thing must I learn or implement?

The best question is “What do I want my life to look like?” What brings me joy and value? What are my long term goals? If you are in business for yourself…what brings you income? Most of us have 8-10 hours in our work day and we fill that time easily. A rather arbitrary number…I mean, who thought 8 hours was the number? I’ve heard the average top sales person spends about an hour a day in front of clients. What brings a sales person income? Facetime. Again, what brings you income, quality of life, true value or all of the above?

Tim Ferriss has a great chapter about this in “The 4-Hour Work Week” called “The End of Time Management”. Read it if you haven’t already. Reread it if you have. 20% of our time creates 80% or more of our results. It is called Parkinson’s Law. Learn to identify what that means for you and eliminate the time drains. Focus on your strengths, do the things that create real value and propel you forward towards your long term goals. .

We use the time we allow ourselves and the tasks we set up fill the time we alot. Give yourself less time and limit tasks to the important. It is amazing what you can accomplish the day before you go on vacation. Pretend everyday is that day and give yourself only half the day. What can you accomplish? Find a way to stay accountable!

It is a huge challenge in todays world with a constant bombardment of information and expectations of ourselves and others. I’ve heard we make more life changing decisions in 3 years than our grandparents did in a lifetime. Hard to stay on top of it. Limit the time wasting, challenge yourself to do only the important and limit the amount of time you allow yourself for those tasks. Consistently ask yourself is this important long term? Am I being productive or just active? There is a real and measurable difference.
